Welcome to Winter 2012

Dear Staff: Welcome to the New Semester. Please take some time to review the consultant manual and to acquaint yourself with new procedures. Then, draft a reply to this that lets your colleagues, WRT 320 students, Pamela, and me know what you think about the changes and what you hope to accomplish this semester. Best, Sherry

I would say that I am very excited to streamline our client and session information by using the ipad but wanted to share some concerns I worry I may find myself being guilty of if I am not paying attention!

I can see myself not time managing well enough to accommodate filling out the rest of the form and starting each session progressively later until I am completely lost!

Also, there are other considerations such as not leaving the writing center space with the ipad (e.g. working at a computer on the information commons). If the client wanted to work outside the center, I would take the ipad to the receptionist desk.

Happy Consulting!

Hi everyone,

This is my first ever 'Blogger' response, and my first semester as a writing consultant - so I look forward to meeting and working with you all.

As a new consultant, the changes highlighted in the email that was sent out, aren't really changes, but rather, the way I, and the other new consultants, will be learning the 'system' to begin with. However, based on the consultant handbook and the description of procedures, I'm quite excited about the integration of iPads into consulting sessions. I think it'll definitely be a great way od storing and accessing client information, and besides, far more economical and 'green'!

My initial thought when I read the email was that the iPads aren't going to be secure enough if given to clients before they meet with their consultant. However, it seems that perhaps I wasn't alone with this thought since our most recent email points out that this has been changed.

For this semester, my goal is to learn as much as possible from experienced consultants and WRT 320 (which I am taking this semester), and gain the confidence needed to grow in to a consultant who will be a valuable team member!

Have a wonderful semester!
